Simulating computational fluid dynamics

Developing efficient algorithms to optimize fluid dynamics simulation.

Quantum computing is emerging as a powerful tool for simulating fluid dynamics, offering a path beyond the computational limits of classical CFD to drive industrial innovation.

Problem

Although quantum computing offers a framework for fluid dynamics simulation, a major bottleneck remains in efficiently loading classical data into quantum systems. Without efficient data encoding, quantum methods cannot outperform classical ones, making data-loading optimization a key challenge for practical applications.

Solution

We leveraged structural regularities in fluid dynamics problems to design approximate data loading methods that enhance state preparation and block encoding. This approach achieved performance gains up to four orders of magnitude compared to prior techniques.

This work highlights the promise of approximation methods for quantum fluid simulations, showing a viable path toward practical, scalable quantum computing in engineering and scientific applications.
